Christopher Jerry lost his beautiful two-year-old daughter, Emily, after a fatal medication error in March of 2006. After the tragic loss, The Emily Jerry Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, was created and established in 2009. The Emily Jerry Foundation has always been concentrated on affecting positive change in the overall “culture of medicine” and how it has been traditionally viewed and practiced. This primary focus and mission has been accomplished by getting the various leaders from around the United States and abroad, from government and industry, as well as, the experts from the various modalities in medicine, to take a closer look at the core “systems”, processes, and protocols that are currently being used in our nation’s medical facilities. By getting everyone to “rally” behind these patient safety related issues and by identifying technology and best practices that are proven to minimize the inherent “human error” component of medicine, he truly believes we can significantly reduce and, one day soon, eliminate the astounding number of deaths that occur every year, from preventable medical errors. With these thoughts in mind, he has always been a relentless patient safety and caregiver advocate who spreads a message of hope, change, forgiveness, compassion, and collaboration. Through his advocacy efforts, as well as, the programming of The Emily Jerry Foundation, he is always striving to be an active part of the overall “solution” to preventable medical errors, which by recent estimates are now the third leading cause of death in the United States (440,000+ lives a year in the United States).
