APIC Cost of Hospital-Associated Infections Model
This tool is designed to demonstrate the costs of infection and the savings inherent in preventing them. It will also provide you with tables and graphs that describe the financial impact of infections at your hospital. You have the ability to customize the report using your own data. For infection prevention and control professionals who cannot find a financial partner or identify the excess costs per each infection type, we have provided data from national studies to estimate economic endpoints. The more of your own data you provide, the closer the estimated costs will reflect the financial impact of infections at your institution.
TMIT-APIC Healthcare Associated Infections Cost Calculator
This cost calculator was developed through a collaboration between Texas Medical Institute of Technology and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. It provides an alternate method to determine the cost of HAIs from the APIC cost calculator.
A Calculator to Estimate the cost of HAIs in Various Institutional Settings
This article by Hollenbeak, Grossbart, Guilloteau, and Denham, A Calculator to Estimate the cost of HAIs in Various Institutional Settings, describes the use of a calculator that can provide costs and length of stay of various HAIs, based on hospital characteristics.
The Cost of Harm and Savings Through Safety: Using Simulated Patients for Leadership Decision Support
A program is described in this paper, The Cost of Harm and Savings Through Safety: Using Simulated Patients for Leadership Decision Support, by Denham and Guilloteau that addresses how to understand and communicate healthcare harm and cost to hospital leadership in order to get them to vote “yes” to investments in patient safety initiatives. A prototype leadership decision support investment model approach was described that addresses clinical, operational and financial approach for most hospitals.
