Understanding Patient Safety: A Discussion with Robert M. Wachter, MD

 Session Overview

Join Dr. Robert M. Wachter, one of our nation's experts in the field of medical errors and patient safety, for a discussion of his second book, Understanding Patient Safety, which builds on his highly acclaimed first book, Internal Bleeding: The Truth Behind America's Terrifying Epidemic of Medical Mistakes. Dr. Wachter is a prominent academic physician on the faculty of UCSF; is regarded as the academic leader of the hospitalist movement, the most rapidly growing field in modern medical history; and is known for coining the term "hospitalist." In 2004, he won the John M. Eisenberg award, the nation's top honor in patient safety.

He will be joined by a blue-ribbon reactor panel of quality and patient safety experts, including Dr. Mike Henderson, Chief Quality Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, and Karen Curtiss, patient advocate and author of Safe and Sound in the Hospital: Must-Have Checklists and Tools for Your Loved One’s Care.
