The LEAD Hospitals Initiatives are all focused on driving the TMIT mission of saving lives, saving money, and delivering value to the communities we serve. These initiatives are designed to engage leaders in hospital governance, administration, and direct care delivery.

Healthcare-Associated Infections are a daunting problem. HAIs have moved from the eighth to the third leading case of death in the United States in the last ten years, despite the advances that have been made in patient safety. The concept of moving from infection control to infection prevention and chasing zero infections has been established by leading certifying, quality, government, and purchasing organizations.

One of the concepts that has evolved in the dialogue is that of a "Chasing Zero Department" – an idealized design of the future infection prevention department. This would be structurally and functionally much different from conventional infection control departments. TMIT will be launching an initiative to develop such designs throughout 2011. Publications such as the Journal of Patient Safety will address this evolving field.
