This website has been designed to support a grassroots effort to engage our community CFOs Chief Family Officers who can rally and support their local hospitals to win the war on healthcare harm and prevent healthcare accidents.
More than 70% of healthcare decisions are made by women in our communities. One in four Americans is a caregiver of someone else and 80% of the caregivers are women. Mothers and Grandmothers play a vital role to ensure family safety.
As a smaller community force, there are many Dads who we call CareDads. They are also taking the lead for their family's health and wellbeing. We will serve them through our programs as well.
Our calling is to serve families by saving lives, saving money, and creating value in our communities at this critical time in history. We KNOW we can help equip this major force for good our CFOs and CareMoms.
In the words of Sue Sheridan, "We need to celebrate and acknowledge the power and profound commitment of Moms because I have witnessed it and lived it. I am proud to be a 'care momma.' And although we are fierce, courageous, and unstoppable, we are also graceful, poised, wise, and savvy. Watch out!"
CareMoms is a new grassroots initiative whose vision is to Save Lives, Save Money, and Create Value in Communities.
We intend to engage and develop community leaders – moms, dads, grandparents, sons, and daughters. They can bring their power of persuasion to reduce healthcare accidents that cause more than 200,000 deaths in America, and many more globally. We will rally them around their local hospitals and give them concepts, tools, and resources that will inform and empower them to partner with hospital leaders and healthcare governance boards to "chase zero" accidents and win the war on healthcare harm.
Healthcare leaders face many barriers to improve; financial pressures, habit, and the belief that hospital accidents and the collateral damage they cause are the "cost of doing business." Overuse, underuse, and misuse of healthcare innovations is rampant. Healthcare leaders across the globe face very similar issues, yet they have been insulated from community support. It is time to penetrate that insulation with goodwill, accountability, and emphasis on three things: engagement of leaders in safety; evidence based safe practices; and the technologies that enable leaders and practices.
We will use social networking and new media tools to help patients and families take responsibility for their care. We will help them energize hospital leaders to prevent accidents.
We will help patients and family leaders make sure that they are well informed, understanding how to prevent health AND financial risk.
We will target areas such as proper testing, medication safety, infection awareness, and help families ensure that the right medical records get to the right caregivers at the right time for the right decisions.
